Projet
The project consists of the realisation of structural and non-structural measures necessary for the protection against flooding of the Upper Medjerda Valley: Zones U1+M between the Algerian border and the confluence of the Mejderda and the Mellègue.
The structural measures consist in the realisation of hydraulic and civil engineering works to improve the flow of the river and to protect the major stakes of the area for a flood of return period 100 years:
- Excavation of about 30 km of the Medjerda and Mellègue rivers.
- Peri-urban dykes to protect the northern and southern areas of the city of Jendouba: 15 km
- Protection of major hydraulic structures (existing bridges): 4 bridges
- Specific crossing works, connection to the watercourse: about ten works
- Coating of slopes in urban areas for better landscape integration
- Protection of unstable slopes
The non-structural measures consist of
- Management of sediments and erosive inputs, with management of the river bed, limitation of erosive inputs from upstream catchment areas, limitation of bank erosion;
- Control of urbanisation, with the impact of the project on the DPH (Public Hydraulic Domain) and the PAU (Urban Development Plan);
- Resilience and reduction of vulnerability, for everything that concerns the reduction of damage to the main issues;
- Anticipation of floods and reinforcement of crisis management capacities, with proposals at the level of the SAP and the Blue Plan;
- Monitoring and maintenance of structures and riverbeds;
- Acquisition of knowledge
- Coordinated management of dams
- Transboundary water management
